독일 망명자 형제인 구스타브 허터와 크리스찬 허터의 뉴욕 회사는 미국 황금기 고객들을 위해 고급 가구를 생산하고 실내 디자인을 통합하였습니다. 영국 건축가 E. W. 고드윈에 의해 대중화된, 영국 디자인 혁명과 여기에 나타난 영일 간의 양식을 포함한 다양한 형태로 작업을 하였습니다. 이 옷장의 흑단과 유사한 착색 표면과 스타일 있는 국화꽃과 잎의 금색 상감 세공은 일본 칠기를 상기시키며 떨어지는 꽃 밑의 짙은 흑색의 여백은 더욱이 아시아의 장식 원리를 제시합니다.
