티에폴로의 가장 거대하고 눈부신 유채 스케치인 이 그림은 일상처럼 하늘을 날려고 하는 아폴로를 보여줍니다. 태양신을 둘러싼 신들은 행성들을 상징하고 사방에 있는 우화적 인물들은 대륙을 대표합니다. 티에폴로는 1752년 4월 20일에 이 예비 스케치를 뷔르츠부르크의 주교 겸 제후인 카를 필리프 폰 그라이펜클라우에게 제시했는데 그의 가장 위대한 업적으로 종종 간주되는 레지덴츠의 광대한 계단식 천장을 장식하는 것이었습니다. 그리자유로 그려진 구석의 인물들은 장식가 겸 조각가인 안토니오 보시에 의해 천장에 치장 벽토로 만들어졌습니다.
