In October 1844 Louis Philippe, King of the French, crossed the Channel and made a week-long visit to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert at Windsor Castle. This image shows the king, queen and prince visiting a marble memorial to Princess Charlotte (George IV's daughter and heir who had died in childbirth in 1817). Matthew Wyatt designed the impressive multi-figure structurel erected in 1820 in St. George's Chapel. The print is part of a bound set of twenty-five lithographs published in 1846 to commemorate Louis's visit. Related text, pp. 25-26 describes the event.
