Education and Training

Objects Conservation welcomes students and cultural heritage professionals to work with Met collections and department conservators and conservation preparators. Education opportunities for current and recent students from high school onward are facilitated by The Met’s Fellowship and internship programs. Additionally there are dedicated training opportunities for graduate students enrolled in advanced conservation programs. Internships are regularly available to high school students and to current and recent undergraduates to introduce the field of conservation through hands-on collections work. Graduate Internshipsprovide year-long training placements for conservation graduate students, typically as a requirement for a terminal conservation degree. Fellowships are awarded to recent graduates and mid- or late-career professionals from around the world to pursue advanced training and undertake research projects in conservation focusing on The Met’s collections.

In partnership with The Met’s Education Department, Objects Conservation staff regularly contribute to Museum programs for children, teens, and adults, including Met Career Labs and Teens Take The Met! Many staff members also teach at conservation degree programs and contribute to national and international initiatives for basic and advanced conservation training.
