Dish (tondino)

Italian

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 950

This small lustered bowl is typical of ceramics made in Gubbio in the 1520s and 1530s. The meaning of the boy playing with a pinwheel is uncertain, but it relates to imagery found on birth trays.
