The valet service is one of the Museum’s many initiatives celebrating the return of summer, including the continuation of its popular Date Night evenings, reopening of the Cantor Roof Garden, and inaugural Sun Sets rooftop performance series.
(New York, May 26, 2022)—The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today advanced details about the return of its bicycle valet program, a complimentary service providing guests convenient storage of their bikes during their visit to the Museum’s Fifth Avenue location this summer. The service will be available every Saturday and Sunday from Memorial Day weekend (starting May 28) through Labor Day (September 5), including the Monday holidays on May 30, July 4. “The only thing better than a visit to the Met, is a visit to the Museum via a bike ride,” said Kenneth Weine, Vice President for External Affairs. “The growing momentum of bicycle travel within New York City is an important and positive development—and we’re honored to provide free valet bicycle parking on our plaza.”
The Museum will also continue its successful Date Night at The Met program—with two-for-one drink specials and music on Friday and Saturday evenings—and welcome visitors to the now-open Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden and Roof Garden Bar. Beginning July 1, the Roof Garden will serve as the site for the weekly Sun Sets performance series, featuring live electronic music, drinks, and small bites on Friday and Saturday evenings. All programs on the Roof Garden are free with admission to the Museum and are subject to first-come, first-served availability (weather permitting).
Visitors to the Museum this summer will also have the opportunity to explore a diverse range of new exhibitions, including the recently opened In America: An Anthology of Fashion and upcoming exhibitions such as Kimono Style: The John C. Weber Collection (opening June 7), which will trace the evolution of the kimono from the late 18th through the early 20th century, and Chroma: Ancient Sculpture in Color (opening July 5), which will present new discoveries of surviving ancient color on artworks in The Met’s world-class collection; included is a series of reconstructions of ancient sculptures in color presented alongside original Greek and Roman works representing similar subjects. The bike valet service, provided by Transportation Alternatives (TA), will be available free of charge. Visitors arriving by bicycle who wish to check their bikes will be greeted by TA staff at a dedicated tent on The Met’s Fifth Avenue plaza near 83rd Street.
