Mathew M. Wambua Elected a Trustee at The Met

(New York, May 16, 2018)—Mathew M. Wambua, a specialist in real estate finance, has been elected to the Board of Trustees of The Metropolitan Museum of Art representing the borough of the Bronx. The election took place at the May 15 meeting of the Board and was announced today by Daniel Brodsky, the Museum’s Chairman.

Currently, Mr. Wambua serves as president of Richmac Funding, a mortgage lending platform for affordable housing. He is a former Commissioner of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), the nation’s largest municipal housing agency. He has also served as Executive Vice President of the New York City Housing Development Corporation (NYC HDC), the most prolific multifamily bond issuing entity in the nation. From 2004 through 2008, as Senior Policy Advisor for then-New York City Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Daniel Doctoroff, Mr. Wambua coordinated and oversaw a citywide portfolio of economic development agencies, boards, and commissions, and also oversaw all economic development initiatives within the Bronx and upper Manhattan. Previously, he was the Vice President for Special Projects at the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and a Senior Investment Officer for General Electric Capital Commercial Real Estate.

Over the course of the last decade, Mr. Wambua has served on numerous boards, including: the New York Housing Conference; New York City Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC); Samaritan Village; The Procurement Policy Board of NYC; Settlement Housing Fund; Mid Bronx Desperados Development Corporation; New York University Furman Institute; Placeful; NYC HDC; NYC Residential Mortgage Insurance Company; the Center for New York City Neighborhoods (CNYCN); Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation; and the New York City Housing Partnership. As proxy for former Deputy Mayor Doctoroff, he also served on the boards of the NYC Empowerment Zone Corporation, NYC Economic Development Corporation, and the NYC Industrial Development Corporation.

Educated at the University of California at Berkeley, Mr. Wambua has a master’s degree in public policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He has taught real estate finance at the New York University Graduate School of Public Service and managerial economics at The New School Graduate School of Public Policy.
