The program offers free museum access to bank cardholders at The Met Breuer and 150 other cultural institutions across the U.S. on the first full weekend of each month

(New York, April 1, 2016)—Thomas P. Campbell, Director and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, announced today that The Met Breuer—the Museum’s new space dedicated to modern and contemporary art—will take part in the Bank of America Museums on Us® program. This program provides Bank of America and Merrill Lynch cardholders free general admission to 150 of the nation’s finest arts, cultural, and educational institutions during the first full weekend of every month. The Met Breuer opened to the public on March 18, 2016.

To qualify for the Museums on Us program, Bank of America/Merrill Lynch customers simply present their credit or debit card and a valid photo ID to gain one free general admission* to any participating institution—which is limited to the cardholder and excludes fundraising events and ticketed special exhibitions or shows (not to be combined with other offers).

“The reopening of Marcel Breuer’s iconic building on Madison Avenue represents an important chapter in the cultural life of New York City,” said Mr. Campbell. “We are delighted that, beginning immediately, The Met Breuer will join the Museum’s two other locations—The Met Fifth Avenue and The Met Cloisters—as a participant in Bank of America’s Museums on Us program. We look forward to welcoming visitors from the program to our vibrant new space.”

Housed in the landmark building designed by the renowned Bauhaus architect Marcel Breuer, The Met Breuer invites visitors to engage with the art of the 20th and 21st centuries through a range of exhibitions, commissions, performances, and artist residencies, all uniquely presented through the global breadth and historical reach of The Met’s unparalleled collection and resources.

The inaugural exhibitions in The Met Breuer include Unfinished: Thoughts Left Visible, which brings together works by some of the greatest artists of all time, from Titian to Louise Bourgeois (on view through September 4); and the largest exhibition to date dedicated to Indian modernist Nasreen Mohamedi (on view through June 5).

The Museums on Us program, now in its 19th season, has experienced major growth in recent years due to increased demand, bringing the total geographic reach to 101 cities in 33 states across the country.

“We are proud of our longstanding relationship with The Met and excited about the recent opening of The Met Breuer,” said Rena De Sisto, Bank of America global arts and culture executive. “New York City’s cultural resources are unmatched, thanks to institutions like The Met who continue to innovate and provide new experiences for our local community and visitors.”
