Metropolitan Museum Elects New Trustee
Colvin W. Grannum

(New York, September 8, 2015)—Colvin W. Grannum has been elected to the Board of Trustees of The Metropolitan Museum of Art representing the Borough of Brooklyn, it was announced today by Daniel Brodsky, the Museum’s Chairman. The election took place at the September 8 meeting of the Board.

Since 2001, Mr. Grannum has served as President and CEO of the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, recognized as the first community development corporation, and one of the largest, in the United States. Restoration pioneered investing in arts as a catalyst to transform urban neighborhoods and uplift the spirits and aspirations of community residents. Previously, Mr. Grannum was a founder and the first CEO of Bridge Street Development Corporation, a church-affiliated community development corporation 
(1995–2001). Prior to his career in community development, he practiced law for 17 years.

In making the announcement, Mr. Brodsky stated: “Colvin Grannum has committed his career to improving the quality of life in New York communities, and providing youth with an education in the arts has been a pivotal part of that commitment.  We are very pleased to welcome him to the Board.”

Thomas P. Campbell, Director and CEO of the Museum, continued: “With his many years of dedication to neighborhood development, Colvin Grannum brings an important perspective to the Board on how to better serve new and existing audiences, and I look forward to working with him.”

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Mr. Grannum also earned a J.D. degree from the Georgetown University Law Center. He was a judicial law clerk to Judge David L. Norman of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia (1978–79); a trial attorney for the United States Department of Justice (1979–84); an Assistant Solicitor General for the New York State Department of Law, Division of Appeals and Opinions (1985–87); attorney for NYNEX Corporation (1987–91); and Senior Litigator in the New York City Law Department, Office of the Corporation Counsel (1991–95).

Mr. Grannum is a member of the board of directors of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, Carver Federal Savings Bank, Bedford Stuyvesant Early Childhood Development Center, Inc., New York City Workforce Investment Board, and Center for New York City Neighborhoods. He has served on the board of directors of the New York City Housing Development Corporation, and the advisory boards of New York City’s Human Resources Administration and Department of Consumer Affairs. In addition, he is a convener for the Coalition for the Improvement of Bedford Stuyvesant, and a member of the community advisory board of JPMorgan Chase & Company.
