Metropolitan Museum Announces New Schedule of "Met Holiday Mondays"

(New York, May 10, 2010) – The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today the schedule for the next seven Met Holiday Mondays—extra public viewing days that take place on the Mondays of major holiday weekends, when historically the Museum has been closed. A different selection of exhibitions will be open on each Met Holiday Monday. The Metropolitan's public cafeteria and several of the gift shops in the main building will be open on all of these special viewing days.

"More than 500,000 people have visited the Museum on a Met Holiday Monday since fall 2003, when the program began," commented Emily K. Rafferty, President of the Metropolitan Museum. "The public response to these additional viewing days has been gratifying, and we are very pleased to extend the program for another year."

The list of upcoming Met Holiday Mondays for 2010 is: Memorial Day (May 31—previously announced), the Monday after Independence Day (July 5), Labor Day (September 6), Columbus Day (October 11), and the Monday after Christmas (December 27); for winter through spring 2011, the schedule is: Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 17), Presidents' Day (February 21), and Memorial Day (May 30).

Prior to the institution of Met Holiday Mondays in 2003, the Museum was closed to the public on Mondays for some 30 years.
