The election of Candace K. Beinecke to the Board of Trustees of The Metropolitan Museum of Art was announced today by James R. Houghton, the Museum's Chairman. Ms. Beinecke's election took place at the September 14 meeting of the Board.
"Candace Beinecke's professional experience in various areas of corporate law and her deep personal interest in the visual and performing arts will bring an important dimension to her work on the Board of the Metropolitan Museum," commented Mr. Houghton. "She has been a long-standing friend of the Museum, and we look forward to working with her in her new role."
Ms. Beinecke is a partner in the corporate and securities law practice at Hughes Hubbard & Reed, and has served as Chair of the firm since 1999. She currently serves as Chair of the Board of the First Eagle Funds, and a Member of the Boards of Alstom (France), Vornado and Rockefeller & Co. She also serves as Vice Chair and a Member of the Board of the Partnership for NYC, as a Member of the Boards of The Wallace Foundation and the Merce Cunningham Dance Foundation, and as a member of the advisory board of Yale Law School's Center for the Study of Corporate Law. At the Metropolitan Museum, she has been a member of the Visiting Committee of the Thomas J. Watson Library.
Ms. Beinecke has been recognized as one of the 50 most influential women lawyers in the United States (National Law Journal, 2007), and was named as one of the 50 most powerful women in New York (Crain's New York Business, 2009). She was recently selected by Crain's for its Hall of Fame as one of the 25 executives whose contributions changed New York City.
She is married to Frederick W. Beinecke II and has two grown children.
