SPECIAL EVENT FOR CHILDREN ON SATURDAY, APRIL 2, AT THE CLOISTERS

Children ages four through 12 and their families are invited to attend Hear Me Roar! – an hour-long program on Saturday, April 2, at The Cloisters, the branch of The Metropolitan Museum of Art devoted to the art and architecture of medieval Europe.

There are many lions to be found in works of art at The Cloisters. Guided by instructor Ross Finocchio, participants will search for images of these animals – fierce ones, and friendly ones as well – and will learn what people in the Middle Ages thought about the king of beasts. Using brightly colored stickers in a variety of geometric shapes, children will also have the opportunity to design and create a maned lion head to take home.

The special workshop, which is free with Museum admission, will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the Main Hall. No reservations are required.

To enhance the experience of viewing the permanent collection of medieval art at The Cloisters, a Family Audio Guide for children six through 12 and their families is available for rental, which includes same-day use at The Metropolitan Museum of Art's main building at Fifth Avenue and 82nd Street. Priced at $6.00 ($5.00 for members, and $4.00 for children under 12), the Audio Guide is sponsored by Bloomberg.

Located in Fort Tryon Park in upper Manhattan, on a hilltop overlooking the Hudson River, The Cloisters can be reached by subway (the A train), bus (the M4), or car. Free parking is available. For further information, call (212) 923-3700 or send an email to cloisters@metmuseum.org.
