The juried exhibition highlighting the creativity of New York City public school students will be accompanied by a digital presentation of select works in Times Square
(New York, June 14, 2022)—The Metropolitan Museum of Art is hosting the 20th anniversary edition of P.S. Art: Celebrating the Creative Spirit of NYC Kids, a juried exhibition of artwork by prekindergarten through grade 12 students from New York City public schools across all five boroughs. The display marks the 15th consecutive P.S. Art exhibition hosted by The Met and will be on view through October 23, 2022, at The Met Fifth Avenue in the Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education. There will be an opening ceremony for students, parents, and teachers at 5 p.m., with remarks at 5:15, on Tuesday, June 14, during the city's Museum Mile Festival.
Selected by a panel of distinguished members of the New York City Art community, including staff at The Met, the 122 works on view were chosen from more than 800 submissions spanning mediums including painting, mixed media, and sculpture. The works and accompanying student statements are a testament to the resilience of teachers and students working in remote, onsite, and hybrid learning environments for the past two years as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
P.S. Art 2022: Celebrating the Creative Spirit of NYC Kids is a project of the New York City Department of Education and Studio in a School NYC.
“For the past 15 years, The Met has had the privilege of presenting these extraordinary artworks in an exhibition that honors emerging voices and the talents of young artists in New York City’s public schools,” said Heidi Holder, Frederick P. and Sandra P. Rose Chair of Education at The Met. “This is a significant anniversary, at a significant time, when more and more we rely on art to help us make sense of a complex and uncertain world. We are proud to play a role in championing the City’s next generation of artists, and the schools, teachers, families, and communities that inspire and support them.”
In conjunction with the exhibition, Times Square Advertising Coalition (TSAC) will host a four-day digital art presentation of 48 works in the show, displaying digital reproductions of the artworks on Sherwood Outdoor’s iconic screen at 2 Times Square in Duffy Square. The kickoff event is scheduled for June 17 and will feature remarks by city officials and student artists. The selected artworks in Times Square will be presented twice per hour through June 20.

In further support of fostering the creativity and education of New York City students, The Met will provide admission passes to the Museum to all student artists represented in the exhibition to encourage them to return frequently during the run of the show. In the 2020–21 school year, The Met provided free visits to more than 10,000 New York City public school students; additionally, more than 1,500 New York City public school teachers and administrators participate in professional development workshops at the Museum.
