성모자상
폴리니에서 성 클라라회 수도원을 창설했던 부르고뉴의 공작 용맹공 장(1419년 사망)과 부인인 바이에른의 마르그리트(1424년 사망) 중 한 사람이 성 클라라회 수도원을 위해 이 걸작품의 제작을 의뢰했을 것으로 추정합니다. 성모에게 안긴 곱슬 머리의 예수는 성모를 올려다보고 있으며 성모의 무릎에는 책이 놓여 있습니다. 또한 이 다정한 장면은 좌대에 라틴어로 쓰여 있는 “나는 태초부터, 세상이 있기 이전에 창조되었다”라는 지혜를 찬미하는 집회서의 한 구절(24:14)을 통해 세련된 신학적 주제를 나타냅니다. 가톨릭 교회는 13세기까지 이 구절을 마리아에 대한 언급으로 생각하였습니다.
