갑옷

이 갑옷은 요로이라 불리며 10–14세기경 일본에서 기병이 착용하던 갑옷의 한 종류입니다. 현재 아주 소량의 요로이만 남아 있으며 미국에 소장된 유일한 예입니다. 17kg정도 무게이며 작은 쇠와 광택제로 코팅한 가죽판을 실크 레이스로 연결하여 제작하였습니다. 가슴은 불교의 신 중 하나인 부동명왕의 그림을 스텐실한 가죽으로 덮여 있습니다. 부동명왕은 그 맹렬함과 부동성이 사무라이가 추구하는 윤리와 잘 맞습니다. 이 요로이는 교토 근처의 사당에 수 세기간 보존되었으며 일본의 장군이자 아시카가 막부의 창시자였던 아시카가 다카우지가 기증했다고 전해집니다.
