기원전 천년 초 그리스 미술에서 장례식 장면으로장식된 대형 크라테르(속 깊은 항아리)는 대형묘의 표석으로 제작되었습니다. 항아리의주요 부분은 프로테시스(유해 안치 의식)를 묘사합니다. 유해는 관대 위에 누워 있고, 이를 유족이 둘러싸고 있으며 추모객이 양 옆으로 늘어서 있습니다. 그 아래에 묘사된 전차와 보병 행렬은 죽은 자가 생전에 성취했던 군공을 나타냅니다. 모래시계형 방패와 전차는 당시에는 존재하지 않았던 과거의 유물이기 때문에 이 장면은 또한 사자의 영예로운 조상을 기립니다.
