Gift basket

Elizabeth Hickox Wiyot-Karuk

Not on view

China teapots may have inspired this sculptural basket with a knobbed lid. Elizabeth Hickox used a twining technique from traditional Karuk basketry to integrate golden porcupine quills with black maidenhair stems. The resulting innovative, graphic lightning motif covers the body and lid. Hickox is considered the greatest basket weaver of the Klamath River Valley region in Northern California.
