Women's Acoma Cape or Dress

Acoma, Native American

Not on view

Acoma capes are distinguished by their elaborate embroidery and striking coloration, and they are among the rarest Pueblo wearing blankets. Here, the ancient geometric motifs combined with floral elements in the upper and lower borders as well as the unusual image in the center reflect Spanish influence. When folded twice and sewn up the side, this woman’s cape could also be made into a dress.
