Tires, Upholstery, and Parts are part of the series Archi-Props that Ruscha produced with Ed Hamilton, one of his longtime master printers. Ruscha was trained as a commercial illustrator, and his interest in graphic design and typography is evident in the crisp lines and bold lettering employed here. Like much of the work Ruscha has produced since the early 1960s, these prints elevate the banal architectural structures that populate the American vernacular landscape by presenting them in a monumental way.
