Bible of Yerevan

Sargis Pidzak Armenian

Not on view

At the bottom left is a rare image of a medieval artist at work. Sargis Pidzak has depicted himself painting the manuscript’s donor, Catholicos Hakob II, in his official robes. Over the large donor image, the evangelist Saint Matthew writes the first letter of his text. The marginal markers beside his text show the dove of the Holy Spirit announcing the Nativity and the Angel appearing to Joseph in a dream.
