This is Simon Wiesenthal’s first book, and one of the first testimonies of the atrocities of the Holocaust. It is a narrative of his experiences in the Mauthhausen concentration camp accompanied by his own art: twenty five illustrations and photomontages of the camp and its inmates. Known as a Nazi hunter, after the war Wiesenthal chased and brought to trial over 1,100 war criminals. In 1977, the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles was named in his honor. He survived the concentration camps at Janowska, Krakow-Plazow, Gross-Rosen, Buchenwald, and Mauthausen, and a death march to Chemnitz.
