Accomplished tailoring was one of the traits of Balenciaga, but he also maintained an interest in Spain, rustic traditions, and the costumes of the toreador. In the fierce nationalism of reopening his salon after World War II, he returned to Spanish themes, including this highly ornamented bolero redolent with the bullfight.
