This catalog is from an exhibition held at the California African American Museum celebrating the collecting history of Bernard and Shirley Kinsey. Over eighty plates representing their collection of objects on African American history include paintings by John Biggers, James Porter, and Elizabeth Catlett; and sculpture, prints, historical documents, manuscripts, photographs, and books. The striking cover features a vintage ambrotype photograph (circa 1855) from the Kinsey collection.
