Not on view

This is the third monograph on Benny Andrews published by the Michael Rosenfeld Gallery surveying Benny Andrews' portraiture. This comprehensive catalog features thirty-three plates of Andrews’ figurative works created between 1957 and 1998 on glossy paper, and thirteen close-up detail spreads on matte paper evoking a canvas viewing experience. The essays explore his use of collage and commitment to figuration during the antithetical rise of abstraction in the 1950s.

Andrews has two notable connections to The Metropolitan Museum of Art: in the 1960s, he worked in the Christmas card division, and in 1969, he co-founded the Black Emergency Cultural Coalition (BECC), an organization which protested "Harlem on My Mind: Cultural Capital of Black America, 1900-1968," exhibited at The Met in 1969.
