Not on view

Henry Erskine Johnston appears here as the pasha Giaffier, a character in Dimond's play "The Bride of Abydos" (first staged in 1818 and inspired by Byron's 1813 poem of the same name). Richly dressed in an embroidered robe, the actor holds a sheet inscribed with symbols. Cruikshank designed this print for "Jameson's Theatrical Portraits" series.
