This vase demonstrates the wealth of ornamental motifs available to designers at industrial manufactories such as Mintons, where Solon worked for much of his career. The results were at times startlingly eclectic. On this pair of “Pompeiian vases,” the asymmetrically hung medallions evoke Japanese designs, while the delicate pink hue of the ornaments and Solon’s cameo decoration call to mind a neo-Rococo aesthetic.
