American Longrifle

Not on view

The distinctive two-piece patch box, framed by inlaid brass wire, and bold wood carving distinguish this rifle as a rare early example from the Reading area, where immigrant Swiss gunsmiths were established by about 1750. This rifle retains its original handmade lock and is remarkable for the nearly pristine condition of its stock.
