Ancestral Puebloan (Kayenta Black-on-White)

Not on view

Diverse civilizations known collectively as Ancestral Puebloan flourished in the Southwest states of Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico in the centuries before the arrival of Europeans. This jar (olla) was shaped by hand, not made on a potter's wheel, and slip painted with a bold geometric design.
