Head of a Woman, after Greuze

Jules-Ferdinand Jacquemart French

Not on view

This etching represents the only French painting (71.91) included in Jacquemart’s print portfolio celebrating the founding collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The etcher’s interpretation in black and white appears to exaggerate somewhat the intensity of the figure’s expression compared to Greuze’s painting, but critics for the "Art Journal" admired the "combined delicacy and power" of the plate.
