The coat of arms with the three towers struck on the covers, indicate that this folio was once the property of Madame de Pompadour. The mistress of Louis XV had an important book collection and an interest in the Middle East. For that reason, the colored engravings of the various costumes and professions of the Levant included in this volume would have appealed to her.
