Not on view

Steinlen was at the height of his career as a popular illustrator and graphic artist when he decided to make this brooding self-portrait. He portrayed himself very rarely and printed only a few impressions of this lithograph. Although he appears to stare directly out at the viewer, the deep shadows cast over his eyes thwart any ability to meet his gaze and create a sense of intrigue.
