The actor John Emery appears here in character wearing riding clothes and waving a whip. He embodies Dandie Dinmont in Daniel Terry's play "Guy Mannering" (Terry was a friend of Sir Walter Scott, who wrote the related novel, and adapted several of his famous plots to the stage). The related drama premiered at the Theatre Royal Covent Garden in March 1816.
