Evening dress

Designer Madame Grès (Germaine Émilie Krebs) French

Not on view

Grès had the capacity to seemingly drape the dress before our eyes; here she navigated the figure with loose tangerine silk jersey. Creating a fusion of caftan (a favorite form of hers) and dress, Grès scooped deep in the back and skimmed along a neckline, letting a ruffle extend over both arms, all this over a straight skirt. As always with Grès a tour de force of dressmaking, this example adds to the richest holdings of Grès clothing anywhere.
