Buddha Preaching

Central Myanmar

Not on view

This small Buddha with right hand raised in the teaching gesture (vitarkamudra) is one of a number of sheet-silver objects recovered from the Khin Ba stupa’s relic chamber at the ancient Pyu capital of Sri Ksetra. The palms of the hands and the soles of the feet display a lotus pattern—auspicious markings (laksana) of Buddhahood.
