This is bound copy of Antonio Cariola's 'Ritratti De' Ser.mi Principe d'Este Sig.ri di Ferrara' (Ferrara 1641). It comprises 13 etchings made by Caterino Doino after drawings by Pirro Ligorio. The prints are mistakenly given to Giuseppe Caletti by Bartsch, who also mentions a fourteenth composition with unidentified figures. The prints show paired portraits of marquises and dukes of Ferrara formerly frescoed in the courtyard of the Castello at Ferrara, providing a pictorial genealogy for the Este family. This copy opens with a title page, a Dedication to Alfonso IV d'Este (1634–1662), an Introduction that is followed by the portraits, each with a facing page of letterpress recording the biography of the family member, birth and death dates.
