Engraving, part of 'Omnium pene Europae, Asiae, Aphricae atque Americae Gentium Habitus' (Costumes of the various nations of Europe, Asia, Africa and America), a series of prints representing figures from various parts of the world, engraved by Abraham de Bruyn and published by Joos de Bosscher in 1580.

This engraving represents a Belgian commander in military costume, a Belgian bearer of the sign, an English rifleman, and a Dutch soldier. On the left, the commander wears an armory with ruff and padded hose, a helmet with a large feathers, carries a short sword hanging from his belt, and holds a halberd on one hand and a shield on the other.

On the center-left, the bearer of the sign wears a jerkin with stripes and beads, trimmed with ribbon loops, over a doublet with long puff sleeves, and padded hose. A ribbon with a medal hangs on his chest below his ruff. His hat is puffy, with braided band and a bundle of feathers. He carries a sword on his left hip and a large flag on his right arm.

On the center-right, the English rifleman wears a jerkin with thin horizontal stripes and bow trimmings over a doublet with long puff sleeves, and padded hose with vertical stripes with small leaf motifs. He wears a top hat and ruff, carries a sword on his left hip, and holds a rifle with his right hand.

On the right, the Dutch soldier wears a jerkin with striped open sleeves trimmed with bows over a doublet with long puff sleeves, padded hose trimmed with three stripes on the sides, a ruff and a ling hat. A sword hangs at his left hip, and he holds a rifle on his shoulders, with his right hand.
