The Triumph of Victory
Etienne Delaune French
Not on view
Engraving, part of a set of 12 prints of rectangular shape, executed over black backgrounds, and depicting combats and triumphs, likely influenced by the combat scenes created by German masters such as Georg Pencz and the Beham brothers. This print represents a woman, in the center, sitting on trophies made up of arms, and endowed with all the attributes of Victory: she is winged, holds a palm in her right hand, and a laurel wreath in the left. To both her sides are sitting prisoners, both adults and children. This late, undescribed copy contains the same representation of Victory as an other print in the same scrapbook.
