Hunting Scenes, No. 5: Deer Hunting

Not on view

Engraving, part of a set of six rectangular prints with white backgrounds, representing different types of hunting scenes. Near the center of the print, a deer is falling to the ground, attacked by dogs that surround him while, from the left, a man points a spearhead towards his neck. Another man, on horseback, also armed with a lance, follows the actions of the first huntsman while, behind them, a third man blows a horn. Another man, holding two dogs on latches, also approaches the scene in the center while blowing a horn. In the background, on the right, next to a forest, another deer is depicted, running away from another group of huntsmen that follow him with their dogs. This scene is almost the same as one depicted in the background of another print by Delaune, for the month of April in a set of prints representing the labors of the months.
