Sir Muirhead Bone was a Scottish printmaker and watercolor artist noted for his depictions of architectural and industrial subjects, city views, landscapes, and his work as a war artist in both the First and Second World Wars. In this print, Bone depicted a group of barges moored on the bank of the River Thames west of central London. Shown in the background (from left to right) are factories with tall chimneys, wharves, a cluster of trees, and the low-lying buildings of Hammersmith.
