"Kaléidoscope: Ornements Abstraits"; Plate 15, Four Abstract Design Motifs

This book, titled "Kaléidoscope: Ornements Abstraits" (Kaleidoscope: Abstract Ornaments), is bound on dark blue linen boards and contains a title page and 20 plates (numbered 1-20) presenting a total of 87 designs for textiles, in the style of Art Deco. Having its peak during the "Roaring Twenties" (second half of the 1920s) and the Depression years of the 1930s, the eclecticism of Art Deco was permeated by both traditional European design traditions and contemporary avant-garde. The designs presented in this book contain colorful, abstract motifs, which evoke, with their fragmented vocabulary, the dynamism of modern culture that was common of Art Deco.

This plate presents four designs for textiles with abstract motifs, one of them presented in a circular shape on the middle-right of the sheet, and the other three around it. The first one presents black horizontal stripes decorated with a strip of semi-abstract motifs with one round side and two points, separated by thicker horizontal stripes with a repetition of elongated scales colored with different shades of blue over a purple and pink ground, above which stand out abstract motifs created with shapes with curved edges rendered with two shades of gray and two shades of green, flanked above by two overlapping triangles colored with purple and black. The second design presents a blue circular frame that holds smaller circumferences and a variety of curved motifs and fragmented circles inside, colored with black, aquamarine, brown, gray, cream, and shades of blue. The third design contains fragments of circles and scrolling motifs colored with gray, blue, red, orange, black and purple. The last design in this group contains green abstracted animal shapes with a black eye over a pattern with circles and fragments of circular and curved shapes colored with shades of green, yelow, brown, blue, black and gray.
