Dish (Charola)
Not on view
This distinctive type of slip-decorated pottery was produced during the early nineteenth century in Guanajuato, a prosperous town best known for its silver mines. The shallow dish is decorated with the figures of two dancing women and a man standing beneath the draped arches of an arcade topped with flags and surrounded by branches with birds. The unidentified subject is probably a courtship scene.
