The actor John Henderson portrays Macbeth encountering the weird sisters in the first act of Shakespeare's play. Accompanied by Banquo within a stormy landscape, the thane receives hints about his future that encourage him to pursue the murderous course that defines the tragic action. Jones's mezzotint is based on painting by Romney.
