Bowl, Geometric Motifs

Ancestral Pueblo (Four Mile)

Not on view

A 14th-century Ancestral Puebloan potter formed this bowl through the coiling and scraping technique before coating the surface in an iron-rich, red-orange slip. The artist then painted geometric motifs, including step-frets, zig-zags, and spirals, into the interior of the bowl with black and white paints, before firing it in an oxidizing environment.
