Three woman in the traditional dress of the state of Oaxaca, Mexico

Francisco Dosamantes, Mexican Mexican

Not on view

Viewed from behind, the three women are wearing the traditional dress of the state of Oaxaca in southern Mexico. The two long braids are typical of the women of Yaltecan, a part of Oaxaca. The print was published in New York by Associated American Artists for an American audience that was more interested in the picturesque features of Mexico than its politics. Along the bottom in pencil, Dosamantes dedicated the print to his children.
