Bell rubbing with three geese hanging a fox from a scaffold, from Bringetofta, Småland, Sweden
Not on view
This rubbing comes from a bell originally in a church in Bringetofta, Sweden, and is now in the Statens Historiska Museum, Stockholm (inv. no. 11781). From a set of rubbings made from reliefs on bells ranging from the 13th to 16th century from Germany, Sweden and Denmark. The provenance of the rubbings is unknown, although several reproduce bells that were damaged or destroyed during the Second World War. This set seems to be unique in documenting medieval bell decorations.
