By 1890, numerous museums had been established across the country, an indication of the nation’s cultural coming of age. In 1888, Schastey fulfilled an order from the Metropolitan Museum for forty display cases, though none are known to survive. After Schastey opened a second manufactory, in Springfield, Massachusetts, the collector George Walter Vincent Smith commissioned a number of cases in the Colonial Revival style for his new museum.
