Cartonnage Fragment

Ptolemaic or Roman Period

Not on view

Made of linen covered with paste and painted, this piece likely came from a mummy case. This fragment depicts alternating djed pillars, symbols of the god Osiris, and tit knots, representing the girdle of the goddess isis. These amuletic signs would have served to evoke these deities and thus protect the deceased.
