Head of a Queen or Goddess

Middle Kingdom

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 109

Preserved on this fragment is the head of a female wearing a vulture headress. This crown, which evokes the vulture goddess Nekhbet and also uses the hieroglyph that spells "mother," identifies the figure as a queen or a goddess.
