Botijuela

West Indies, Cuba

Not on view

Called botijuela in Spanish but also known as bunga, its African name, this vessel can be used either by blowing across its top or as a percussion pot when slapped on the side. When it is blown across the top it may be called a botija; diferent notes are produced by covering a smaller hole in the side with the finger. The botijuela is used to accompany song (son) and dance (danzon).
