Coney Island Wings I

Yvonne Jacquette American

Not on view

Yvonne Jacquette creates dynamic compositions through unusual perspectives, heightened color, dramatic light, repetitive elements, and manipulated scale. Following a flight to California in 1969, the New York-based artist became interested in the particular vantage offered by an airplane and began to create the landscapes and cityscapes as seen from above; this perspective developed into a defining element of her art: the aerial view. In Coney Island Wings I the nocturnal view of the famous Brooklyn neighborhood is interrupted by a large airplane wing, positioning the viewer in space while dynamically juxtaposing the close-up with the far-away.
